Get those buzzer fingers ready! Practice sessions for the 2020 Horse Bowl teams begin in September.
During a 4-H Horse Bowl contest, four-person teams, plus an alternate, compete by answering questions in a quiz bowl format. Team members meet regularly to study with their coaches in order to prepare for the spring contests. We will NOT limit the number of individuals who can practice and may form two competition teams if necessary. We practice by studying questions from a nationally designated practice book and we will integrate more hands-on and visual experiences as well, this year. You DO NOT need to own a horse to participate. Come on out and make new friends and learn about horses! HORSE BOWL CONTEST GUIDELINES
Each county can enter Junior (age 8-13) and Senior (age 14-18) teams of four members plus one alternate for participation in the regional Horse Bowl contests held each spring. Teams that qualify at the regionals advance to the state Horse Bowl contest, usually held in mid-April at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Top two Senior teams go on to compete at the Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, OH in October. The state champion Senior team advances to the national championship held each November in Louisville, Kentucky. During a Horse Bowl contest, teams compete by answering questions in a quiz bowl format. Questions are taken from approved reference books:
